Largely Willie the ClownWe welcome you to this home-grown Web site, an informational and pictorial tribute to Bill Irwin, one of the world's consummate thespians. As an author, an actor (stage and screen), as a clown, a director, a choreographer, and as a producer, Bill has demonstrated a stunning competency in a multiplicity of theatre arts that a lot of us have come to not only appreciate, but unabashedly admire. Few can so adroitly play the clown for an adoring audience one evening, then, a short month later, command our rapt attention in an original adaptation of Samuel Beckett's most perplexing drama piece. (Which happened to have been adapted for stage by the very actor!) But Bill does that sort of thing... fairly regularly! As proof of his gifts, he's received both a Guggenheim Fellowship and one of the cherished MacArthur Genius Grants, along with his being inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame.
